Pre-launch A personal cognitive operating system

Remember what made you.

JOS keeps the definitions, decisions, principles and identity that reality has validated over time — in a record you own. The model is just the CPU.

JOS 不試圖記住世界。JOS 試圖記住那些被現實長期驗證後,最終塑造了一個人的定義、決策、原則與身份。

The thesis

Not “how can AI remember more?” but “what is worth remembering?”

01

Models are stateless

Every call starts from zero. Retrieval and memory layers try to fix this by storing more.

02

Memory is not identity

A pile of past conversations is not a self. What shapes a person is a small set of definitions that keep surviving reality.

03

Definition is the power

Whoever holds the power to define stays human. JOS keeps that power with the person, not the model.

Principles

The model is the CPU.
The record is the self.

Four commitments shape every part of the system.

The LLM is a compute engine

Claude is the engine JOS runs on today. Any model can be swapped in; who JOS is does not change.

Identity lives in the record

Principles and decision history stay in a local, auditable, editable store — never in model weights.

Context construction is the product

Every call rebuilds context from the record. The value is deciding what deserves to enter it.

A decision requires an artifact

A decision is a commitment, proven by something shipped into the world — not a thought.

Ontology v1

Eight entities, from fact to self.

Raw experience enters at the bottom and is compressed, step by step, into a self-model. Two loops run at different speeds; the decision is where they meet.

Fast action loop

Days · everyday action
01

Observation

A fact. No interpretation allowed.

02

Inquiry

The question a fact raises, refined in a loop.

03

Position

Where you are in life right now.

04

Energy

Your real capacity to act.

Slow wisdom loop

Months · cognitive evolution
Core unit05

Decision

A commitment, with an artifact.

06

Pattern

What repeats across decisions.

07

Principle

A definition that keeps surviving reality.

08

Identity

The result, not the starting point.

Observation precedes interpretation Position precedes planning Energy constrains action Decision requires artifact Principles emerge from trajectory

Runtime

An autonomous system that knows its place.

JOS does not wait to be asked. Timers give it initiative; the record gives it continuity; the model only computes.

Initiative

Timers

  • Observation · every 30 min
  • More timers · planned

Core

JOS Runtime

Rebuilds context from the record on every call, then decides whether to observe, speak, or stay silent.

Compute

Engine

Claude today. Swappable by role — a fast model to decide, a stronger one to speak.

Continuity

Your record

Local, append-only, human-readable. Genesis, observations, decisions, principles.

i.

Time itself is observed

Every half hour JOS casts an I Ching hexagram with a simulated yarrow-stalk method. The cast is recorded as fact; any reading of it is kept separate, as interpretation.

ii.

Silence by default

Most moments do not deserve an interruption. JOS speaks only when an observation is worth stopping for — and almost never late at night.

iii.

A voice that does not overstep

JOS asks and reflects. It never decides for you; the commitment, and its consequences, stay human.

First product

JAPP — a diary that installs a JOS.

It looks like a journal. Write the way you always have; JOS keeps time, observes, and reflects back what you have actually committed to.

  • Starts with its own genesis: a cast at the moment you first open it.
  • Separates what happened from what you think it means.
  • Turns commitments into decisions with artifacts, and patterns into principles you can test.
  • Apple Watch integration planned, so the system can sense the body as well as the page.

Status

Testing the core hypothesis first.

The biggest risk is whether patterns really become principles worth trusting. We are validating that with real data before building more.

  1. Done

    Ontology v1

Eight entities, two loops, five runtime rules.

  2. Running

    Runtime prototype

Half-hourly observation into a local record.

  3. Now

    Experiment 001

Pre-registered: does “energy constrains action” hold, and do principles predict decisions as well as raw memory?

  4. Next

    JAPP

The diary that installs a JOS.
